Outfits & Essentials: Staying In at Home for the Holidays

I've been home now for a few days and my look has remained pretty consistent. As it's getting colder and colder and I have nowhere to go, I've been rocking these winter essentials.

Finally Home

Wow. Another semester finished and I'm finally home again! As much as I love being away at school in Oklahoma it is really so nice to come back home to spend Christmas in New York with my family. Being so far away, I don't fly home very often. Actually, for the fall semesters I don't come home at all. I've been in Oklahoma since August! I love school and my friends and my sorority sisters, but honestly nothing compares to sleeping in my own bed in my mom's house with my brother and sister down the hall.

Now I'm someone who celebrates Christmas, but the whole holiday season is easily one of my favorite times of year. With school on hold it's a nice time to de-stress and find some peace and relaxation. I had a really strenuous semester and one of my professors told me to go home and find my zen. And boy of boy has it been helping. Laying on the couch and sleeping late might be considered a little bit lazy, but I'm totally okay with that for a few more days. Let me know below how you spend your holidays and how you find you zen!

Oh! Also, before I forget; As some of you may know I've been wanting to start a vlog for ages. Well, I think I'm finally going to start once I get back to campus after the holidays. I'll be drafting up some video ideas but if you have any videos you'd really love to see please let me know in a comment down below!

More posts to come this month and lots more in the new year!
And Home for the Holidays is going to be my while I'm at home series. Keeps everything neat.
Love you guys! And have a great holiday season!

Currently Listening To: Olly Murs

This semester I've been listening to a lot of new music, and an artist I've really come to like is Olly Murs. His music is so catchy and has definitely been getting me through these stressful past couple of months. If you're looking for something poppy and fun, he's absolutely it. (Plus he's handsome, which totally doesn't hurt.)

Here are a few of my favorite tracks by Olly Murs;

Quick Update

Happy November my lovely Pearls!

I know, again, I've been away and not posting like I said I would be. But I'm going to be honest with you, senior year is kicking my ass. It's been really tough; mentally, physically, and socially. Just non-stop, being pulled in all directions. I promise to update you soon.

Also! Be on the look out for a page revamp. I'm looking to change things up for fall. I think a little makeover might get my juices flowing and increase the amount of posts that pop up here.

Anyways, if you've been checking in, I really appreciate it.

Love you lots!

P.S. - New signature coming soon too!

Food For Thought: Dance Jobs

This is sort of a... random post I guess, but this is my blog and I'll post what I like! Anyways, these past two weeks I was lucky enough to work behind the scenes at a dance competition which to be honest wasn't really something I thought I'd ever do. I've been a dancer my whole life; danced in more recital than I can count, competed and have more trophies than there's room for, own more costumes than I could ever find use for. Being a dancer in college isn't really the same as being a dancer throughout elementary, middle, and high school. All of those years I was a competitive dance and now I'm more of a solid performer, honing in on my performance and technical skills. Neither is better, they're just different. But once I moved on to college, I'd figured that the competition part of my life was over, and while the competitive part is over, the being around the competitions surely is not.

Quick Tips: Sorority Recruitment

I know, this is super early in the summer. But, as a former Director of Formal Recruitment, current first night chair, and member of every recruitment committee there is I can say that it is never too early to begin thinking about recruitment. Notice, I say "begin thinking about" and not "begin stressing about."

Recruitment should not be a time of panic and stress, but a time when you are looking for your home away from home; because that's honestly what this is all about. Your sorority will be your family while at school and overtime they'll become your family away from school as well. My sisters are honestly my best friends and I know I could go to any of them for anything. Go into recruitment with this in mind. You should choose the house that is best for you. And you can listen to what other people say about each house and where they believe you belong, but in the end it needs to be your decision. You will be the new member, not them.

With all of that said, here are some things to keep in mind as you go from house to house during recruitment:

Summertime Sigh

You guys, I am bored of summer already. And I know, you must be saying, "But Val! How could you possibly be tired of being home and not having classes!?" Well here's the thing; my life is so much more entertaining while I'm away at school than when I'm here at home. My sisters and my friends are at school. I live by myself, which I love. And there are loads of planned events to attend and things to keep me busy. As my last year of college is coming up, I can't help but think about how much I'm going to miss college after it's all over.

But enough of the depressing "woe is me" type posts. That's all of the whining I'm going to allow. Maybe you guys have some great ideas of ways to keep your summer from hitting a dead end. What are some fun things you do during the summer time? Let me know in the comments down below! And wish your daddies a happy Father's Day!

Looks For Less: Pink & Black

Let's be real for a second. We girls have expensive tastes, and while that's not a bad thing it can put a strain on our wallets. Here are a couple of designer pieces and their dupes found on Forever 21's website. I was in the store in Times Square earlier this week and spotted all of these individual pieces there. While they may not be perfect duplicates, these pieces certainly exude the same style and look.

Something New: Country Music

So, being born and raised in New York I was never really exposed to the world of country music. I've always been very open to all different types of music, but the North never gave me the opportunity to really delve into the country genre. Attending university in Oklahoma was a huge culture shock for me, and in the beginning I was super resistant to letting in the charms of the South. But, Southern Charm worn me down and I've finally opened my heart and my ears to the world of country music.

I tweeted asking my friends and followers for their ideas on what to listen to in a country music starter playlist. here's what I've been listening to for the past two weeks! All music can be listened to on Spotify.

  • Darius Rucker - Wagon Wheel
  • Luke Bryan - Drunk On You
  • Luke Bryan - In Love With The Girl
  • Jessica Andrews - Summer Girls
  • Hunter Hayes - I Want Crazy
  • Hunter Hayes - Wanted
  • Eli Young Band - Even If It Breaks Your Heart
  • Eli Young Band - Guinevere
  • Eli Young Band - Oklahoma Girl
  • Lady Antebellum - Just A Kiss
  • Brad Paisley - The World
What are some of your favorite country songs?

Currently Listening To: January 2013

I'll be completely honest; I don't know what my taste in music is doing but it's all over the place. As you can see there are lots of different genres on this month's list, but I've enjoyed them all just the same. Hoping you will too. All songs can be found on Spotify.

Hello & Welcome!
